A crate contents recognition system has been deployed on conveyors at two major European meat processing plants.

Before deployment

A crate stopped on the scales while the MES system waited for an operator to select the SKU on a touchscreen, taking 30 seconds to several minutes. Selection errors could lead to misclassification and disposal of a batch of raw materials.

After deployment

The interval from crate stop to MES data delivery is now 200 ms, with recognition accuracy above 99.4%. Reducing manual classification increased line speed almost tenfold.
